Sagar Chhetri, who came from Chitwan for higher education, found it difficult to find a suitable hostel in Kathmandu. Collaborated with some friends and found a hostel near the college.
Sagar, who was studying BSc.CSIT at Trinity College, was forced to change hostels due to various problems. Similarly, students from the villages they knew would ask for suggestions on which hostel to stay when they came to Kathmandu.
'When I came to Kathmandu from the village, it was difficult to find a suitable hostel near the college,' he said, recalling the first day, 'I had to leave the hostel I got with the help of friends for various reasons. After leaving the hostel, there was a problem of finding another hostel. Then I felt the need for a platform to find a hostel.'
He narrated the experience of moving six hostels by the time he reached the sixth semester. Thus, when it was difficult to find a suitable hostel while looking for a hostel, he imagined a platform in the first year of his undergraduate studies.
Later, he developed the plan of 'Your Hostel' in collaboration with his friends studying at Trinity College. Sagar says that although this project was thought of long ago, it was delayed due to the epidemic of Covid-19.
'Your Hostel', which was built after searching and researching a year ago, went live on the Internet last Monday.
In this project, Sagar Chhetri is the founder, and CEO, Aditya Khadka, Sunny Shakya, Sahil Vetwal, Amgi Shrestha, Ayush Khadka, Shabd Shrestha, Miroz Rai, Bimal Shrestha, who were studying with him, have played the role of web and app developers. Kushal Basnet and Nabin Bhattarai also played vital role as digital marketers.
Through this platform, anyone who needs a hostel can find a suitable hostel in different districts of the country for free. Also, those staying in hostels can register their hostels for free.
Currently, the mobile application of 'Your Hostel' is under development, so the facilities in it can be viewed from the website.
According to Chhetri, those who want to join it have to pay some kind of service fee. Students who need a hostel should go to the website and choose the place they want. After choosing the place, you have to choose your gender. Then the names of available hostels will appear there.
Along with the name of the hostel, you can see the hostel's monthly fee, location, and rating (the feedback given by others about how the hostel is). After that, if you click on one of the hostels, you can see the facilities, photos of the rooms, location, and features of that hostel.
If the hostel is suitable, it can be booked by going to 'Book Now' below. As this website is currently under development, it is not possible to book immediately.
Similarly, businessmen who have a hostel can register by going to the register a hostel option at the bottom of the website. After clicking on 'Register', the information about the hostel has to be included.
Chhetri said that the hostel that is about to be registered will be verified and officially registered by the team of 'Your Hostel'. According to Chhetri, the Hostel Association of Nepal has not cooperated in the plan to include the hostels in major cities of the country at once.
"We first went to Hotel Association of Nepal with this proposal," he said, "but it seemed like they didn't trust our platform." If they had agreed, we could have put the details of hostels in the city on the website in a short time.'
Chhetri says that information of more than 150 hostels has been included on the website. "If Hostel Association Nepal had cooperated, we would have included more than 600 hostels," he said.
In this way, he plans to make the 'Your Hostel' platform an Oyo of hostels by providing the hostels available all over the country on one platform.
He said that after developing this, the plan is to develop a hostel management system and generate income from that.
He said that since 'Your Hostel' includes necessary additional features and there is some delay in the initial stages of including hostels in different locations, it may take a month for the app to be released. Sagar Chhetri at this young age launching this platform is inspiration for all the youth in Nepal.
